Punxsutawney Phil sees no shadow, predicts early spring!! But wait, we heard that last year and didn’t get a spring. We got an extended winter followed by monsoon season, because apparently mother nature has her head on backwards and thinks we have rice fields instead of turfgrass. I hope Phil is right this year, we are ready to get out there and get the course ready for our first full season of 27 holes. We have had a very productive winter so far, and as soon as some weather breaks we have a few projects lined up and ready to keep improving Cross Creek Golf Club for all our patrons.
If you follow me on social media, then you are one of the lucky ones that have gotten a sneak preview of our new tee markers for CCGC. No more little branch tee markers that can’t be seen. The new ones are bigger, and have our logo branded on the top face. They look really sharp. We made new sets for all the tee except the gold tees since they just tee off from wherever they want. Just kidding, we made them for you too. But we are hooking up a shocking system to the gold tees so that you will not be able to keep moving them.
Another little addition this season will be cup saver ball retrievers on the bottom of the flagsticks. With golfers being allowed to putt with the flag in, most golfers are also keeping the flag in while trying to pull the ball out of the cup. This leads to damaged edges very quickly. Nothing worse than setting cups, and not even an hour later the cup is destroyed from either sticking a hand in there while the flag is in, or using a putter to dig the ball out of the cup. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE PUTTER TO DIG THE BALL OUT OF THE CUP!! If I see it, I’m smacking you on the nose with the newspaper and saying, “NO, Stop it! That’s a bad boy!” With these new ball retrievers on the flagsticks, it will allow you to easily get the ball out of the hole, and help keep the cup edges clean for the rest of the golfers.
If you are ever wondering what is going on at the course, you can always follow me on Twitter (@razobe01). I usually like to post photos of the course or give updates on course conditions. Let’s hope Phil gets it right this year and I get to see you members out here playing sooner, rather than later.
