Spring Has Sprung!!

Finally! Some warmer weather has arrived! People are dusting off their clubs, and after seeing Tiger win the Masters feel like it is their time to shine on the course. I know I’m ready to play if I get a chance. So with the warmer weather, means more golfers are out playing and the course is starting to take shape with its color and growing. Now that grass is starting to grow, I can start getting to work on fixing some of the problem areas on the greens that went bad from last year’s weather. A big thing you are going to notice is that some of the greens are going to have a high amount of sand in some areas. This is an important step in the process of getting grass back in these areas. Bentgrass is designed to grow sideways and “creep”, and spread rhizomes. So by laying down this sand, we are giving the grass a better place to spread and fill in the bad areas. Now it’s not going to be fixed in a day or a week, but this is going to be a long process through the season. With that being a said, I ask that you PLEASE do what you can to stay off of these areas. Play these areas as ground under repair and move your ball out of the sand. The less stress we can put on these areas, the better.

PLEASE FIX YOUR BALL MARKS!!! I can not stress it enough. We are only a couple weeks into the season and we are already noticing a large amount of ball marks being left on the greens. It is a very simple task, and if everyone does their part then it will help with the overall appearance and playability of the greens.

Staying with the ball mark issue, I want to address one more issue. If you are going to be practicing in the evenings and hitting into greens, Please pick up your balls. If we are finding golf balls on the greens in the morning, then that only means one thing. You aren’t fixing the ball marks left on the greens from your shots.
